The Water-Framework Directive (European Union), and the so-called Water Law, implies the determination of the chemical status of the groundwater bodies or groups of groundwater bodies. In the present paper the characterization of the chemical status of groundwater bodies in the islands from the Eastern Group of the Azores archipelago (Santa Maria and São Miguel) is made, according to data collected in the monitoring network. Results show that all groundwater bodies, in both islands, are in Good status, despite some high values regarding parameters that are associated to mixture with seawater (electrical conductivity and chloride content) and agricultural pollution (nitrate content).
