​In the Central Iberian Zone, the metamorphism during the variscan orogeny evolved from Barrovian conditions during D1, to anatexis during the late stages of D2 and D3. Migmatites in most anatectic complexes lack garnet or cordierite, and yield sillimanite and K-feldspar. This generally indicates that peak metamorphic conditions are not very high, which is at odds with the profusion of S-type granites and diatexites, indicating excess of 40% melt volumes. We test and evaluate the role of pelite geochemistry and of water-saturated melt reactions during these anatectic events.​
